At our recent showing of "Curse of the Jade Scorpion" we asked you to write a short review, 200 words or less, for the chance to win a prize.

The winner was George Mayled with this prize-winning entry:

"Trepidation is the medical term for trembling of the limbs and, having read the critics, was my approach to this movie. However within five minutes a sense of pleasure, nay relief, came over me. The one-liners came thick and fast. Woody didn’t hog them but scattered them around to others, particularly Helen Hunt.

Getting away from the usual Allen rep company brought fresh faces and a sense of revival. Woody in colour can be a shock but it worked in the rich evocation of the ‘40s. As ever the music is a joy.

It doesn’t quite hit the mark as a tribute to screwball comedies. At 67 Allen is no Cary Grant and no one could match up to Kathryn Hepburn.

Nevertheless with so much to enjoy this is a minor quibble. I haven’t had so much fun since “Manhattan Murder Mystery”.

Someone once said if Woody Allen didn’t exist somebody would have knitted him! Well, he’s alive, well and not in the least bit woolly.
